SMALL GROUP CLASS (MAX 4)
Would you like to progress your Pilates practice together with others? In small group classes expect a slow and steady pace as we work to build a solid foundation for your Pilates practice.
We offer ways to progress and regress exercises to accommodate different abilities and requirements whilst incorporating the basic principles of Pilates that bring balance, control, strength and good alignment. Classes include matwork and the use of Pilates Springboards™, props and Pilates equipment.
Mobile classes
We come to you!
Whether it is the convenience of having a class at a time that suits you in your own space or whether you would like to include Pilates as part of a special occasion, SoulPowerPilates can come to you.
Mobile classes can either be private, semi-private (two to four) or a group (five or more).
Where equipment isn’t available, classes will focus on matwork and incorporate Pilates props to either aid your movements or make the class just that little bit more challenging.
Types of pilates classes
Mat Classes
Mat Pilates is a series of exercises designed to be performed on a mat. Joseph Pilates, the founder of the Pilates Method (originally called Contrology), developed mat exercises that were similar to the work done on Pilates equipment (the Reformer, the Cadillac, the Chair and the Barrel).
- Pilates matwork can be done anywhere with just a mat.
- Pilates matwork is often more challenging than the work on equipment and a lack of mobility and muscle imbalance can make it challenging to access core muscles during a Pilates mat workout.
- These classes are suitable for clients of all levels.
Pilates Springboard™ Classes
A Pilates Springboard™ class is a small group class and involves using several springs attached to boards mounted on a wall. The large boards have several eyelets for springs that can be attached at varying heights which offer more or less resistance/ support.
- Exercises can be done in all planes of movement, lying down, kneeling, standing, lunging, squatting or in plank.
- The springs can be used with your hands, feet and your trunk.
- Pilates Springboards™ also have a push-through bar—which is a metal bar that hinges from the board. This is also sprung from above and below to work arms, legs, feet, ankles and your all-important core.
- These classes are suitable for clients of all levels.
Pilates equipment and props
In the studio you will have access to a wide range of equipment including a Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Ladder Barrel and Spine corrector as well as props such as Fitness circles, Flex-bands, exercise balls, hand weights, Foam Rollers, cushions, pads and blocks.
The basic principles of STOTT PILATES
The aim of STOTT Pilates is to develop optimal neuromuscular performance by focusing on core stability, while safely balancing muscular strength with flexibility.
Whether performed on a Mat or on specialised equipment, Pilates that incorporates modern theories of exercise science and spinal rehabilitation also involves these biomechanical principles:
Breathing
Pelvic placement
Rib cage placement
Scapular movement and stabilisation
Head and cervical placement
Before each pilates class
To get the most out of your Pilates practice, please follow these steps
- Arrive 10 minutes before your first class so we can get to know each other a little, discuss your body (especially any injuries or medical conditions) and your goals
- Wear comfortable workout clothes that you can move in
- As a courtesy to other guests – please leave your pets at home and remove all beach sand before entering the studio (unless of course we are practicing on the beach!)
- Come to class well-hydrated, not on a full stomach and with an open mind
- We encourage questions and feedback during and after class
- Always move at your own pace and, most of all, smile and enjoy it!
